TRADITION: noun [< Latin traditio(onis)
= delivery, handing over < traditus, past participle of tradere
= to deliver]
An act of delivering or handing over customs, doctrines,
practices, beliefs, rites, and opinions into the hands of others
from generation to generation by oral or written communication.
Examples of
traditions that are not mandated or required
by Scripture for
salvation:
angels with wings
denominations
canon or church law
ordinations
celibate priests or
pastors
married priests or
pastors
male pastors or
teachers
female pastors or
teachers
marriage ceremonies
funerals
burial in ground
hallowed by man
baptisms, eucharists
and confirmations
(done for the sole
requirement of church membership)
chapter and verse
numbers of Scripture
prayer books
hymnals
choirs
vestries or church
councils
church hierarchy
beyond bishop and deacon
seasons or
celebrations of the Christian church year
(such as Christmas and
Easter)
crucifixes
statues of
veneration
tithes
belief in the
rapture doctrine
belief that the earth
is only 5000 years old
belief in human
evolution proceeding out of primordial soup
English translations
of the Hebrew and Greek Scriptures
(or any other modern
day translation for that matter)

any belief or tradition created by
man and not mandated by God.
